Books Are A Uniquely Portable Magic! – BoT Appreciation Post

Book lovers rejoice, you have something really cool to look forward to. There is a new channel on YouTube that is tailor made for you and me, Books on Toast! Anuya Jakatdar and Sharon Bhatti do a podcast on books, very aptly named BoTCast. Each BoTCast features a guest and has a fun topic of discussion and the best part is that it’s always about books.

They have aired 12 episodes till now, some have 2 parts to them. They film these podcasts at The Cuckoo Club, Bandra. The guests that have featured so far have been Kanan Gill, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Rohan Joshi, Ashish Shakhya, Supriya Joshi, Radhika Vaz, Vivek Tuteja, Kaneez Surka, Kautuk Srivastava, Neville Shah and Dia Mirza. The topics have been books that make you go LOL, books we couldn’t finish, books about dystopian futures, strange and unusual books, feminism in fiction, shitty classics, romance novels, books that became TV shows, books that inspire wanderlust, books we grew up on and books that talk about nature.

The discussions are really good and if you’ve read the books they are talking about, you will almost always agree with them. Unless it is Anuya’s weird hatred for Salman Rushdie and Haruki Murakami. The one book I really agreed about with them was ‘Never Let Me Go’ by Kazuo Ishiguro. If you haven’t read, don’t fall into the trap of it being one of the best books ever, it will suck the life out of you. Shi-shi-guro, indeed.

The guests on the BoTCast are well read and have really great talking points. They talk about the books without giving too much away so you don’t have to worry about spoilers. They also give a lot of really cool recommendations that will make you really want to buy those books so be prepared for that. All the people talk passionately about books and inspire you to read more.

Another thing to look forward to are Anuya’s puns, which are constant and sometimes awful(ly awesome). If you love puns, and let’s be honest everyone enjoys a good pun, you are going to laugh out loud.

Books on Toast hosts events too. They have book sales regularly where you can donate and buy books. So keep an eye out for these big book sales on their Facebook page.

Books on Toast is the only Indian YouTube channel that I know of that specifically focuses on books. They are inspiring young readers to read more and are giving good suggestions with what books to start with. So check out their BoTCasts and follow them on social media for bad(good) puns and book recommendations!
